Scene-Sequel writing model. Scenes are where actions happen, in the moment, and characters are doing stuff that will have major consequences later. Sequels are the parts of the story where the characters react to what happened (kneejerk, emotional reactions), then mull over what happened (intellectual responses), then to reorient to the next probable scene.
Her “neutral state” would be kind of like a ‘sequel’, except for the player. Instead of a cutscene or dialogue sequence where we see the characters discussing what happened and the next steps, the PLAYER gets to mentally review what has recently happened and decide where to go next. They’re not being prodded along by immediate gameplay goals (“Win the fight!”/”Finish the scene!”), so they have time to do the mental follow-through characters have during sequel.
